Department Head Meeting Decisions 2/15/05

1. Teacher Assistants will be limited to 1 per teacher in most cases. (counselors continue to have the authority to work with parents and teachers to meet the unique needs of individual students. Department Heads expressed a strong feeling that TAs should be supervised by the assigned teacher and have meaningful, productive work and tasks. 9th grade students will be discouraged from being TAs since they are working toward high school graduation requirements.

Office Assistants will be limited to one student per period. Department Heads do not believe that it is efficent or effective for Teacher Assistants or Office Assistants to work together.

Peer tutors are still an important part of our special education program and peer tutors receive Occupation Education credit which does recieve credit. This school policy is not intended to limit peer tutors.

2. PE Teachers and coaches request that 9th grade Breakout Teachers adjust due dates to fall on "Dead Week". Jim W. said that they will.

3. Core 1a is dropped from the Master Schedule. It may be offered for special education students if Special Ed. Department Heads request and it works.

4. We are moving ahead with WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) and Go: Seven Habits which is a Planner/Motivation/Goal Setting program that we will present two days a week over Eagle Eye and complete assignments in the planner during the Eagle Eye period.

5. We discussed an adjusted schedule during WASL/ITED Testing week. It will run like a 2-hour Late Schedule and we will rotate through 34 minute class periods. Frank D. is the Assessment Coordinator and he will publish a schedule. At this time, we are looking at starting Tuesday April 29th and finish Tuesday April 26th.

6. Assessment protocalls will be reviewed with all teachers at the March 11th Inservice Day. The rest of the day will be used for small teams of teachers to work on classroom curriculum/unit plans together.

I believe that step 5 has the wrong dates for WASL testing. April 29th is a Saturday. Adjustments will need to be made. Christy Hjort
