Social Studies Curriculum Work 2006-07
Hi all.
Our junior/senior high social studies team worked very well last year and we ended in June with a recommended sequence of courses, reading, writing, and research skills/concepts for each grade level. We realize this is only a beginning and that we have more work to do this coming school year: continued reading and meeting as a team, investigating materials to support the recommended sequence, planning out PD for social studies teachers with regards to the CBAs (classroom based assessments), and finding resources to meet the new needs. Here’s the recommended sequence, CBAs, and timeline for implementation:

This upcoming school year we will continue meeting as a group. We read Thomas Friedman’s The World Is Flat; we hope to find another compelling book to read to push our thinking forward. We have the beginning thinking on which reading, writing, and research skills we want to focus on each year; we will spend this coming school year to develop each component by grade level and content.
