Best Way to Use Inservice Days Input
This year, lets look at making the best use of every inservice day. My thinking is that each department has priorities and as Dept. Heads each of you can look at the inservice calendar and we can define what activities and resources that we want to use each day to make the best use of this time.
Lets not use inservice days for general staff meetings or general inservices. Lets look at it as a resouce that matches what we actually want to accomplish. For instance, Science may want to rewrite classroom assessments to match low subtest areas on the 8th Grade WASL. Exploratory may want to plan a Performance Calendar that highlights the arts at Skyview throughout the year. Math may schedule a shared inservice on improving geometry skills through our exisiting curriculums with Canyon Park Junior High. Your department may want to visit Bellevue SD middle schools to see how they are implementing middle level IB.
You will be given the general school inservice plan in your Dept. Head packet. Please talk with your Department and strategize and provide input through this BLOG into what your department would like to do each of these inservice days.

Science Inservice and Goals
We've discussed these with the Department and have come up with some priority items. Consequently our efforts are going to be focused in these directions, with our main goal being to improve our students' scores on the state science WASL.
1. Grades 9/10 WASL pipeline meetings
2. Grades 6/7/8 WASL pipeline meetings
3. Grade 7/8 curriculum realignment.
4. Part 3 also has a direct immediate impact upon the 7th grade program. This will include probably using the 7th grade Island Project time that is presently devoted to non 7th grade science units for units we are not able to present, for example Human Body system.
5. Outdoor Environmental Learning Center curriculum joint 7/8/9 development
